NPSC Joins 6th AAPSCOMS Assembly in Nairobi to Discuss Public Service Innovation

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) is participating in the 6th Annual General Assembly of the Association of African Public Service Commissions (AAPSCOMS), which is being held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The three-day event, which kicked off with a formal opening ceremony, has brought together over 100 international delegates from AAPSCOMS member commissions across the African continent, as well as 200 local representatives from various Chapter 15 commissions, independent offices, select ministries and state departments.

The assembly, themed “Driving Public Service Delivery Transformation through Innovation and Technology” aims to explore ways in which African public service institutions can enhance service delivery to citizens, utilizing the power of innovation and modern technology.

The opening ceremony featured several distinguished speakers, each emphasizing the role of innovation and technology in transforming public service delivery.

In her remarks, Alice Otwala, Vice Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, highlighted the critical mandate of the Commission in the National Police Service.

She outlined the various strides the Commission has made in executing its human resource management functions, including improving recruitment processes, performance management, and professional development within the police service.

Otwala noted that the conference provides a valuable platform for public service institutions across Africa to benchmark best practices in governance, recruitment, training, and innovation, allowing them to learn from one another's experiences.

The keynote address was delivered by Justin Muturi, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Resource Development.

Muturi emphasized Kenya's commitment to championing innovative reforms within the public sector. He pointed out that the government is making concerted efforts to embrace technology to streamline public services, improve governance, and meet the growing demands of an increasingly digital society.

Ambassador Anthony Muchiri, who is both the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya and the Vice President for the East Africa Region within AAPSCOMS, underscored the assembly’s focus on transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in the public service. He emphasized the importance of public sector reform in meeting the evolving needs of citizens across the continent.

The event is notable not only for the significant number of international delegates but also for the wide participation of *local representatives. Over 200 participants from Kenya’s Chapter 15 commissions, independent offices, ministries, and state departments will take part in the discussions

The NPSC delegation, led by Dr. Alice Otwala and accompanied by CEO Peter Leley and other senior officials from the Commission, is actively engaged in the conference’s deliberations.
