The two were captured holding a bouquet of roses in a symbolic gesture of their strong working relationship.
Whitman who is set to leave her post after a two-year tenure also used the opportunity to praise Juma for her role in strengthening the Kenya-US relationship.
“She is a true champion of Kenyan security and I will greatly miss working with her,” she said in an apparent reflection of the collaboration that marked her time in the country.
Whitman caught many by surprise Wednesday when she announced her resignation.
"Today, I announced to my team at the U.S. embassy that I submitted my resignation to President Biden," she said.
Reacting to this, Juma recognised her role saying she served with utmost dedication.
“Such is the nature of the diplomatic service! Thank you most sincerely for serving the USA and Kenya with utmost dedication, delivering on many fronts, including a historic State Visit,” she stated.
Whitman is said to have opted to leave early.
Her resignation comes a few days after Republican candidate Donald Trump beat Kamala Haris of Democrats to win the presidency.
"I will depart Kenya full of gratitude for the team that has worked tirelessly on my behalf, for the opportunity to serve my country, and for the friendship offered by the government and the people of the beautiful Republic of Kenya,” she said.
She was confirmed in a unanimous vote by the US Senate as the 18th US ambassador to Kenya on July 14, 2022.
She presented her credentials to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on August 5, 2022.
Information available on the US Embassy website (Nairobi), shows that Whitman has significant experience leading business organisations, from start-ups to large multinational companies in Silicon Valley.
She has previously served as the President and CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and the Hewlett-Packard Company, both multinational information technology companies.
She also served as President and CEO of eBay Inc, an online marketplace and digital payments company.
Whitman has also been a member of a number of corporate boards of directors, including Procter and Gamble and General Motors.
Committed to equality in education and protection of the environment, Whitman has been National Board Chair of Teach For America and has been a Member of the Board of Trustees of The Nature Conservancy.
Whitman holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB in Economics from Princeton University.
She is married to Dr. Griffith Harsh, a neurosurgeon and both have two sons and two grandchildren.
