Speaking on Saturday during the installation of Bishop Peter Kimani as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Embu, Kindiki urged the church to continue with that generous spirit.
“We want to thank the Catholic church for sponsoring numerous
educational, health, water and other projects that have gone a long way in
proving the quality of life and the living standards of people of Kenya,” the
Deputy President said.
The installation ceremony was also attended by President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a host of other leaders.
Kindiki urged the Church to pray for the country for Kenyans to live in peace and harmony.
“I pray and plead with the Church to continue praying for
our country that we may continue living in peace, harmony, that we may have a secure
country so that we can be able to worship God and raise our families in the
country that God gave all of us,” the DP said.
His remarks come just days after Catholic bishops blasted the government in a strongly-worded statement accusing it of failing to fulfill its pledges.
A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders responded to the appraisal and called out the bishops, urging them to use the right channel to convey their
message.
The Embu event was the first time that the President, Deputy President and the former DP met at the same event, weeks after the former DP was impeached and Kindiki installed as his successor.
This is also the first time the former President Uhuru shared the same podium with the Kenya Kwanza government this year after weeks of absence in public space.
Gachagua, who has been somewhat quiet since his impeachment, was also making his first public appearance at an event attended by his former boss and successor.
