A multiagency security team has intensified patrols in Barigo Noth subcounty following suspected banditry raid at Chemuriyon village on Friday.

The suspected bandits made away with unknown number of goats.

In a joint effort comprising GSU officers from Kosile and Sangorok and their RDU Ngaratuko counterparts, the multi-agency team was able to track down the bandits at Kapchuro Ngaratuko escarpment.

The team intercepted the bandits on Saturday at around 3am and recovered 78 stolen goats.

But the recovery followed a fierce exchanged of gunfire between the officers and the bandits.

The suspected bandits managed to escape, enabling the multiagency team to drive the stolen goats back to their owner.

The owner of the goats confirmed that all the animals were accounted for soon after the goats were brought to the RDU Ngaratuko camp.

People living within Kapsebewa and its environs are livestock keepers and have lots of goats and other animals including cows, making the area attractive to banditry attacks which have been frequent.

The multiagency team promised to intensify patrols to stop the trend.

Banditry attacks have been reported more in the Northern parts of Kenya with the Anti-Stock Theft teams upping their tactics in an effort to end the continued theft of livestock in the affected areas.

The government through the Ministry of Interior on its side has put up strict measures which include tracking down bandits to their hideouts to ensure to ensure there is total security in the banditry-prone areas.

This has ensured that the cattle together with other animals are safe in the hands of the headers.

Banditry was in the past viewed as a cultural practice by some communities but the culture has over the years degenerated into theft, resulting in insecurity. The regions mostly affected by banditry include Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu and parts of Laikipia county.
