The ruling UDA party has ratified some leadership changes in Nakuru County Assembly.

The Hustler Centre, the UDA headquarters approved the MCA's decision to elect William Mutai as their new Majority Leader.

Mutai will replace former Majority Leader Alex Langat.

The new majority leader was elected in a meeting convened by the Majority Whip Fadhili Msuri in compliance with Standing Order 19 of the Nakuru County Assembly.

The meeting happened at the Hustler Centre, the UDA party Headquarters in Nairobi.

Msuri thereafter communicated the changes through a letter received by the party.

The UDA secretary general Hassan Omar wrote to Msuri acknowledging the change to the leadership of the majority party in the Nakuru Assembly.

"The party acknowledges communication regarding the changes and equally acknowledges the same and further guides that members strive to foster cohesion in the Assembly to realise the legislative agenda of the party in Nakuru,'' said Omar.

MCAs had in September ousted Langat through a unanimous vote, accusing him of obstructing their oversight role in a resolution dated September 11.

Langat however moved to court and obtained an order barring MCAs from replacing him until his case was heard and determined.

The Court later referred the matter to the UDA party for arbitration.

Through a letter signed by Biashara Ward MCA, Fadhili Msuri, the ward representatives had said they decided during a meeting held at a local hotel.

“This is to inform the Speaker of the decision made during the meeting on Monday, September 9 where all the 31 County Representatives allied to UDA unanimously voted to remove the majority leader,” read the letter in part then.

In the letter, Msuri also cited Langat’s failure to call a meeting of Majority Party MCAs to address key issues.

“Langat has not called a meeting for UDA members for two years, thereby denying them a platform to discuss matters crucial to the party,” he said

While maintaining that the ouster was in accordance with the Nakuru County Assembly Standing Orders, Msuri accused Langat of protecting corrupt individuals at the Nakuru County Government from accountability.

“The Majority Leader has persistently obstructed MCAs in carrying out their oversight role in significant corruption cases within the executive,” he said.
