Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday held a series of high-level meetings with various officials at his Karen residence.

The meetings began with a Cabinet Committee on Finance, Infrastructure, Land and Production Economy meeting that was attended by at least eight members of the Cabinet, including the Attorney General Dorcas Oduor and Secretary to Cabinet Mercy Wanjau.

Cabinet Secretaries; Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Dr. Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Davies Chirchir (Roads and Transport), Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development), Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife).

Kindiki later on held a consultative meeting with the Ministry of Health leadership to review the progress of the roll out of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

They also looked at the challenges and solutions for steadying the roll-out and full implementation of the new Health Insurance and the possible adjustments that will perfect the operational capabilities of SHA, Social Health Insurance Scheme (SHIF) and Digital Health Services.

“The transformative transition to the new Social Health Insurance will ensure as many Kenyan households as possible access quality and affordable healthcare and will remove all chances that existed under the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) of a small section of Kenyans and healthcare providers gaming the system to benefit at the exclusion of many,” the Deputy President said.

The meeting was attended by CS Deborah Barasa (Cabinet Secretary, Health), Harry Kimtai (PS, Medical Services), Mary Muthoni (PS, Public Health), and Dr. Patrick Amoth (Director General, Health).

Dr. Zeinab Gura (Acting Deputy Director General, Medical Services), Anthony Lenayara (Acting CEO, Digital Health Agency), Dr. Abdi Mohamed (Chairman, SHA Board), Dr. Thuranira Kaugiria (Technical Advisor, Health, Office of the President) and Terry Rotich (State Counsel, Ministry of Health) were also present.

The DP later on held a review, status, progress and improvement briefing with the leadership of the Ministry of Education officials.

He noted that the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) aims at responding to prevailing and future global trends in education and human capital development.

Kindiki added that funding of Technical, Vocational and University education must ensure all Kenyans access higher education to enable them meaningfully contribute to the development of the nation.

“The Presidential Working Party on Education reforms calls for crucial reforms to firm up access and affordability of continuously relevant high quality education system, good enough to produce fit-for-purpose graduates for industry and the ever-changing global job market.”

The meeting was attended by Julius Migos Ogamba (Cabinet Secretary, Education), Permanent Secretaries; Dr. Belio Kipsang (Basic Education), Dr. Beatrice Inyangala (Higher Education and Research), and Dr. Esther Muoria (Technical Vocational Education and Training-TVET).

Also present were Elyas Abdi (Director General, Education), Joseph Njau (Secretary, Technical Vocational Education and Training) and Milton Njuki (Deputy Director, Higher Education and Research).
