The Music Copyright Society of Kenya Board of Directors has expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua.
The chairperson of the board Lazarus Muli further dismissed claims on social media that Mutua was suspended on Saturday.
“The MCSK Board takes great exception to the malicious propaganda that has been peddled on our CEO by people claiming to be directors,” Muli said.
Over the weekend, social media was awash with news that the MCSK Board of Directors suspended Mutua as CEO on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
A poster said Mutua was therefore not allowed to act on behalf of MCSK and the the society would not be responsible for any agreement made with him.
“This is to inform the general public, stakeholders, and our esteemed members that Ezekiel Mutua (whose photo appears above), has been suspended and is NOT allowed to conduct business on behalf of MCSK,” the poster read in part.
“MCSK shall not therefore be liable for any contractual obligations that arise from engaging with the said person.”
On Tuesday, Muli said the board, on behalf of the over 16,000 MCSK members from across the country is fully behind Mutua and the management under him.
“The board is happy and satisfied with the great work Mutua has done within a short time since he was recruited to lead change management and give strategic directions as the CEO of MCSK about two years ago,” Muli said.
Addressing a press conference, Muli said the board has already instituted legal action against the people behind the malicious attacks on Mutua.
He announced that the MCSK Board will in the next two weeks issue a notice for its national elections in line with the MCSK Memorandum and Articles of Association as read with MSCK Election Rules.
“We have requested the office of the Registrar of Companies and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissions to supervise and observe the elections to ensure transparency and fairness,” he stated.
He added that Mutua has brought charisma, vibrancy, and visibility to MCSK and generally to the Kenyan music industry.
