Three Cabinet Secretaries who joined the Kenya Kwanza administration during the formation of the broad-based government have been recognised for their performance four months into office.

The CSs Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Deborah Barasa (Health) and Eric Muuga (Water, Sanitation and Irrigation) have been cited for various development initiatives.

President William Ruto, while swearing-in the new Cabinet on August 8, defended the establishment of the broad-based government saying it was necessary for the country to have a fresh start.

The President said Kenya has always been held back by political rivalry.

He said it is for this reason that he reached out to leaders from the Opposition party to join his administration.

According to Kenya Track, Joho has been seen to enhance logistical support and operational capabilities, advanced field reforms and human skills capacity and is transforming livelihoods of fisher-folk communities at the grassroots.

He has also been acclaimed for spearheading a crackdown on illegal mining activities, paying loyalties to communities and urging miners to form cooperatives for mutual benefit.

Karanja has been acknowledged for enhancing food security and improving livelihoods, especially through the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.

His performance has further been pegged to his emphasis on the significance of coffee and cocoa as vital commodities in Africa’s economic and cultural heritage.

He has also introduced a quality-based payment system for dairy farmers and will distribute over 300 milk coolers nationwide

Karanja has been fostering cooperation and partnerships in key sectors such as leather, textiles, edible oils, land commercialization, and animal feed production.

Barasa has been acknowledged for pushing to ensure all Kenyans can access healthcare through the social health programme while Muuga has been rated highly for ensuring that Kenyans have access to safe, sustainable and enough drinking water and improved hygienic sanitation, inspecting the progress of interconnection of Northern Collector and forging stronger partnerships to enhance water security and promote sustainable irrigation for Kenya's future.

Old faces recognised for their work include Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Musalia Mudavadi (Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs), Alice Wahome (Lands), Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport) Aden Duale (Environment) and Alfred Mutua (Labour).
