At least 9,000 households will be connected to electricity in Taita Taveta County within the next year through the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation.
Speaking while flagging off electricity materials to connect 800 households in the Wundanyi constituency, President William Ruto said that his government is determined to uplift the lives of people from the county, by empowering them with electricity.
The president who also commissioned a power substation in the area, also commissioned an electricity project for 160 households in Mlambeni village.
Among those who were connected to power was 87-year-old Drisilla Jumwa from the Mwanguwi area.
The connection is part of efforts to scale up the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project.
“We are investing Sh1.1 billion to connect 9,000 households in Taita Taveta County to power, including 900 beneficiaries from Wundanyi Constituency,” Ruto said.
