National Assembly.

MPs will today (Wednesday) consider a report from a House Committee on the nomination of Sammy Chepkwony as the new Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson.

Chepkwony, a human resource expert, was vetted by the Departmental committee on Labor on November 22 alongside six other individuals nominated as members to the commission.

They are Martin Ong’onyi to represent Defence council, Mohamed Aden whose name was submitted by the Senate on behalf of county governments and Jane Njage (TSC).

Others are Gilda Odera (Federation of Kenya Employers), Geoffrey Omondi ( COTU) and Leonid Ashiundu to represent Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA).

The report on the vetting of the nominees was tabled in the floor of the House on November 26.

If approved, Chepkwony who was nominated by President William Ruto on November 12, will succeed Lyn Mengich whose six-year tenure ended in September.

He will be assuming office at a time when the country is grappling with ongoing discussions about public sector wages and the need for reforms in the remuneration system.

Chepkwony will expected to navigate the delicate balance of ensuring fair compensation for public servants while managing the financial constraints faced by the government.

With a background in human resources, his expertise could be crucial in addressing these challenges, as he brings expertise in workforce management and organizational effectiveness.

Chepkwony is currently the Managing Director and chief executive officer at People Centric Management Limited.

His career started at PriceWaterHouse Coopers (PWC) as a senior consultant but he has held various other senior positions.

These include chairperson at Tata Chemicals Magadi Provident Fund, HR Director at Kenya Airways, James Finlay Kenya, HR Manager at Nairobi Bottlers Ltd and Regional Human Resource Director at Aga Khan University.

Chepkwony holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce (Business Administration) degree from the University of Nairobi.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Human Resources Management, a member of the Institute of Directors-Kenya, a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) Kenya and has completed a Trustee Development Program.

Also to be considered by the lawmakers during the Wednesday’s sitting is the report by the Committee on Justice Legal Affairs on the nomination of Abdi Mohamud as the new EACC boss.

The committee conducted the approval hearing on Tuesday.

During the vetting, he promised to run a professional anti-graft agency that is guided by the law.

“I do not belong to any political party, I will never belong any political party. I will not be used as a conveyor belt,” Mohamud told the team.

“So long as I am the CEO, we will not be used for political witch hunt. We will be guided by the law and the constitution.”
