Kenya University Students Organization President Antony Manyara has been awarded a doctorate (PhD honoris causa) in Leadership and Youth Advocacy by the Heim Weldios University of Management and Technology in Abuja, Nigeria.
Manyara, who was elated by the honour, thanked the university for recognizing his leadership potential saying it’s a testament that if youth are given a chance, they stand a big chance to succeed.
The Kuso president expressed commitment to continuously work with the youth in advancing the country's development agenda.
"I take this opportunity to thank Welders University for an award of Honorary Doctorate Degree (PhD Honoris Causa) Philosophy in Leadership and Youth Advocacy,” he said in his statement.
“The award illustrates that it’s time to embrace the leadership of the Kenyan Youth to enhance the economy of our nation. I will endeavour to lead the youth in meaningful initiatives that seek to better the nation.
Kuso also congratulated Manya for the outstanding accolade saying he is a shining example of the youth potential in Kenya.
Kuso said the milestone is a testament to his unwavering dedication, impactful leadership, and tireless advocacy for youth.
“Your journey continues to inspire many, and we are confident that your contributions will leave a lasting legacy. Well done on this well-deserved recognition,” the association said.
Manyara has been at the forefront of advocating for better governance and urging the youth to play an active role in bettering the nation.
He has also led initiatives aimed at taming moral decadence in the country, a move he says aligns with his desire to have a better Kenya for all.
Last month, Manyara petitioned the Parliament to compel President William Ruto to declare femicide and GBV a national disaster.
Manyara filed the petition a the National Assembly asking MPs to compel the president to make a declaration.
His petition followed a spike in femicide and gender-based violence cases in the country, attracting concerns from Kenyans.
"The National Assembly should swiftly and expeditiously address the surging cases of femicide and gender-based violence in Kenya in accordance with Article 119 of the Kenyan constitution," read Manyara's petition in part.
The National Assembly
is implored to urgently call upon the President to officially declare the
surging cases a National disaster because the declaration will underscore the
severity of the crisis and also formally recognize the gravity of this crisis
and initiate the mobilization of the requisite resources," he added.
Manyara's petition was received by the clerk of the National Assembly on November 15
Manyara said in his petition that section 2(4) of the Kenyan constitution stipulates that any Law including Customary Law that is inconsistence with the constitution is void.
The KUSO President further told the MPs that the law provides that every person has an obligation to respect, uphold and defend the Constitution.
