The Ministry of Health (MoH) Cabinet Secretary Deborah
Barasa Mulongo, has signed the 2024/2025 performance contract.
The CS on Monday together with Public Health and Professional Standards PS Mary
Muthoni and PS for Medical Services Harry Kimutai signed the contracts marking a
significant step toward enhancing healthcare delivery in Kenya.
Healthcare is one of the five core priority areas aligned
with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) under the performance contracts.
According to the ministry, the performance contract
represents a commitment to accountability, professionalism, and measurable
progress within the health sector.
It aims to guide and bolster the ministry's efforts in
implementing impactful health programs and initiatives for the benefit of all
Kenyans.
The agreement underscores the importance of efficient
allocation and utilization of resources, addressing gaps in health
infrastructure and workforce capacity.
According to the ministry, this strategic direction is
expected to build a more robust healthcare system.
Barasa highlighted the performance contract as an important
roadmap for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in delivering quality
healthcare services to all Kenyans.
She reiterated the Ministry's commitment to creating a
healthier and more equitable Kenya.
“A key priority of the contract is strengthening public
health systems to enhance disease prevention and health promotion. It also
focuses on improving medical services to ensure equitable access to quality
healthcare across the country,” the CS stated.
During the signing ceremony, the CS emphasized the critical
role of teamwork and collaboration in achieving the UHC and advancing the Taifa
Care initiative.
She also stressed the need to strengthen weak links
within the healthcare system to ensure that progress continues and that Taifa
Care becomes a reality.
Principal Secretaries Muthoni and Kimtai commended the
technical team’s performance and emphasized the importance of focusing on
cross-cutting issues to meet the ministry’s objectives while the Director
General for Health Patrick Amoth underscored the need for evidence to justify
performance.
By signing this contract, the Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to transforming healthcare and ensuring better health outcomes for every Kenyan.
