Man dies after jumping into a waterfall in Baringo

Police are investigating an incident in which a 35-year-old man died after jumping into a waterfall at Tirenwo River, Kabartonjo, Baringo County.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening in Kaberi village, police said. Police said Anthony Cheptoo died by suicide after jumping from a cliff into the waterfall.

Authorities visited the scene and retrieved the body to the Baringo County Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Police said they are yet to establish the motive of the incident. 

In Chepalungu, Bomet County, one Bernard Kipsang Langat, 43, died by suicide in his house.

His body was found hanging on the roof rafters of his bedroom, police said. No suicide note was recovered at the scene, and the motive is yet to be known, police said.

The body, which had no visible injuries, was removed to Longisa Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination. 

Cases of suicide are on the rise, with societal trauma being blamed for the same.

The World Health Organization says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder

Meanwhile, police are investigating murder in an incident where a father was attacked and killed by his wife and son in Nakuru County.

The deceased, 50, is believed to have been attacked and poured with sulfuric acid. He succumbed to the injuries while being attended to, police said.

Police said they arrested the woman and her son for questioning over the incident that happened on Wednesday, December 11 evening.

A team of police that visited the scene said they recovered a container with some chemicals believed to be the acid used in the incident.

Detectives allege that the couple had a domestic fight that led to the deadly attack.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy. The suspects were sent to be arraigned, where police said they would make a miscellaneous application to detain them pending further probe into the incident.

Cases of deadly domestic fights are on the rise amid calls for parties to address their differences amicably.
