Ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opened up about life since his impeachment in October 2024.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV Sunday night, the former Deputy President said his exit from office has given him peace and enabled him to reconnect with his loved ones.

Gachagua also reflected on his journey and highlighted the positive experiences since leaving office.

“I have so much peace and thank God for life and good health. Now I have time to introspect on where we have come from, where we are going, and how it's all going,” Gachagua said.

The former DP said that the transition has enabled him the time to engage in good conversations with friends and family, something he often couldn't do because of his busy duties as deputy president.

“I’m also happy because I now have lots of time to engage with my friends, have talks, and visit people I didn’t have time for before. I can sit down with my relatives, those I grew up with, and just talk,” he said.

Gachagua also spoke of the time he now spends with his immediate family and the joy of bonding with his wife and children.

“I now have time to spend with my wife and my kids. We talk, and I am content. I have no problem with anyone.”

The ex-DP said some people expected him to isolate himself after the impeachment, but he is a survivor and it is just a phase.

"Some people thought that after leaving office, I would remain indoors, doing nothing, not even talking to anyone. I'm someone who has seen and gone through many things. I'm a survivor, one who dies and resurrects," he said.

Gachagua was the first deputy president to be impeached in Kenya's history.

He was first impeached by the National Assembly on October 8, and on October 17, the Senate upheld his ouster.

Gachagua, who is now challenging the impeachment processes in court, has remained vocal in matters affecting the country.
