A majority of Kenyans are doubtful that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct free and fair elections in 2027, a new poll shows.
The survey by Infotrak Research and Consulting said 54 per cent of respondents were skeptical that the electoral body will conduct the polls in a free and fair manner.
“Only 26 per cent of the surveyed respondents expressed confidence in the IEBC to conduct free and fair elections in 2027,” Infotrak said.
It added that 21 per cent of the respondents said they were unsure whether the IEBC would live up to its mandate.
The report said Nyanza and Nairobi regions had the highest number of Kenyans who are unsure IEBC will deliver credible elections at 59 per cent each.
The two were followed by Eastern (58 per cent), Central and Western (55 per cent), North Eastern |(51 per cent), Rift Valley (49 per cent) and Coast (44 per cent).
The survey further noted that the Coast region had the highest percentage of Kenyans who have confidence in IEBC at 38 per cent.
It was followed by North Eastern and Western (28 per cent), Rift Valley (27 per cent), Eastern (25 per cent), Nyanza (23 per cent) and Central (20 per cent).
Central had the highest number of unsure Kenyans at 25 per cent, followed by Rift Valley (24 per cent), North Eastern and Nairobi (21 per cent), Coast and Nyanza (18 per cent) and Eastern and Western (17 per cent).
The survey was conducted between November 16-30, 2024 with a sample size of 2400 respondents.
The quantitative survey had a margin error of +2 per cent at 95 per cent degree of confidence.
The survey covered all 47 counties in the 8 regions with data being processed and analysed using SPSS 26 Statistical software due to its high accuracy and reliability.
