Arrested protesters break into song and dance ahead of arraignment

A group of anti-abduction protesters arrested on Monday broke into songs and dance on Tuesday just minutes before they were arraigned at Milimani Law Courts.

The group, in a video seen by the Star, were heard chanting solidarity slogans even as they said they would not stop their bid to “liberate Kenya”.

“A people united can never be defeated, Gen Z united can never be defeated,” the group sang.

Police officers manning them were seen leaving the cell in which they were held at Milimani Law Courts pending arraignment, seemingly unperturbed by their chants.

The group is just but a fraction of the many Kenyans who came out in different parts of the country to protest against the recent surge in abductions and forced disappearances reported in the country.

In December alone, seven people have been abducted in Nairobi with only one among them having been found.

During the anti-abduction demonstrations on Monday, several people were arrested and detained.

Among those arrested in the streets was Busia Senator Okiya Omtyatah who joined the protesters after filing a case against the abductions at the High Court.

He was held at Kamukunji police station pending arraignment.

The case was meant to compel the Inspector General (IG) of police, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to produce the 7 youths abducted recently.

The arrested group will be presented at Milimani Law Courts where the DPP is expected to press charges against them.
