Most parts of the country will experience sunny and dry weather in the first week of the New Year, the Kenya Met Department has announced.
In a weekly weather forecast running from December 31, 2024 to January 6, 2025, the department said occasional rainfall may occur over the Coastal region.
It added that occasional rainfall may also occur in isolated areas of the South-Eastern Lowlands, and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
The weatherman said temperatures will rise above 30°C in the
Coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya, as well as parts of the Rift
Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and South-Eastern Lowlands.
“Night-time temperatures will drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley, and South-Eastern Lowlands. Stay warm,” the department stated.
Nairobi and several other regions in the country are expected to experience light showers on New Year's Day.
The forecast, from Saturday, December 28, 2024, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025, suggested that the first day of the New Year may bring rainfall to certain areas of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi.
In the forecast, the weatherman highlighted that the counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi could see showers.
"Nairobi is among the regions that could experience showers on the first day of the new year," reads the weather advisory.
Rainfall is also expected to affect the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, particularly on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
From December 28 through to New Year's Day, temperatures in the southeastern counties are forecast to reach highs of 31°C during the day, with lows of 14°C at night.
