Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka joined the family of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi, on Thursday afternoon to pay tribute to Kivuti’s late son, Eric Mutugi Kivuti, who passed away last week.
In a heartfelt message, Kalonzo described Eric, fondly referred to as "The Contemplator," as a beloved individual, as evidenced by the moving tributes shared by his friends, colleagues, and family.
"I pray for God's merciful guidance and comfort for Senator Kivuti and family at this most difficult time. Hold on to the words of Apostle Paul written in 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4: "God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others," Kalonzo wrote.
The Wiper leader extended his condolences to the grieving family and wished for Eric to rest in eternal peace.
When Eric's death was announced in December 2024, President William Ruto sent his condolences.
In a statement, Ruto said that Mutugi’s star has been taken too soon.
He went on to say that he prays for Kivuti’s family during this difficult time as they come to terms with the loss of their son.
The President also prayed for God’s comfort to the family and friends of the Kivuti’s.
“I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the tragic loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. I pray for the Kivuti family during this immensely difficult time. Eric’s light and promise have been taken far too soon, May God grant the family and friends strength, comfort and peace,” Ruto said.
Lenny Kivuti served as Embu Senator from 2013 to 2017. He previously served as a Member of Parliament.
The former Senator disclosed that his son passed away at MP Shah Hospital after a short illness.
"I am very sad. Very sad! I lost my beloved son, Eric Mutugi, at MP Shah Hospital yesterday after a short illness. We canceled our family Christmas festivities. Please join my family in funeral plans for my beloved son. God bless his soul in heaven," Kivuti said on Facebook.
