Deliverance Church International General Overseer Bishop Mark Kariuki has revealed how he came under a barrage of insults after he attended a State House meeting.
Kariuki noted that he was among the evangelical church leaders hosted by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, on December 11.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the President noted the importance of collaboration between the State and religious institutions despite recent tensions.
Ruto described religious organisations as vital partners in promoting national cohesion.
Redeemed Gospel Church Presiding Bishop Kepha Omae led the
evangelical and pentecostal church leaders.
Speaking to members of his congregation, Kariuki noted that he was the only religious leader in that meeting.
“I was not alone, there were 25 of us there. I was not even the leader of the group. I was among the people who were called to go. You cannot be called by a leader and say no, so I went,” he explained.
Kariuki noted that he started receiving insults from unknown callers as soon as he left State House.
“As soon as I left that place, by the time I got to the office, I started receiving calls. I picked the first one, and the caller said, Hello bishop Mark and insulted me,” he recalled.
The bishop noted that he was with his son in the vehicle and was forced to explain to him why he was not picking any more unknown numbers.
“My son asked me to pick, and I told him those were people who wanted to insult me. He then told me he has seen my number and his mother's have been circulated online,” he said.
“I picked one, put it on loud speaker to demonstrate to him, and I was still insulted.”
Kariuki noted that by the time he was getting to the office, his phone was full of messages and had a lot of missed calls.
“If I had my faith on social media, you would have come to see me in hospital because of stress and depression,” he told congregants.
