KCSE results for 840 candidates cancelled

The number of 2024 KCSE candidates who attained direct university entry qualification of C plus and above stood at 246,391, Education CS Julius Ogamba has announced.
Speaking during the release of the results on Thursday, the CS the figure translated to 25.53 per cent in 2024 compared to 201,133 which is 22.27 per cent in 2023.
“This is attributed to the improved or new grading system,” he stated.
The exam began on October 28 with 965,501 candidates sitting the assessment across 10,755 exam centres across the country.
The government contracted 32,800 examiners this year, up from 29,876 in 2023, to ensure timely and accurate marking.
The CS further noted that the number of candidates with grade C minus, which is a direct entry for the TVET diploma, and above was 476,889 translated to 49.41 per cent in 2024 compared to 401,216 (44.42 per cent) in 2023.
He added that the number of candidates with D plus and above was 605,774, which is 62.76 per cent in 2024 compared to 526,222 (58 per cent) in 2023.
Ogamba noted that to enhance the credibility of the examination process, for the first time candidates’ examination papers were personalised and anonymised.
“This helped to improve objectivity during marking and holding candidates personally responsible for any irregularities,” he said.
He noted that 840 candidates were involved in examination irregularities in 2024 and had their results cancelled.
Of the top performers, 1, 693 candidates scored straight As, the CS noted.
Ogamba disclosed that 962, 512 candidates sat the 2024 KCSE exam, an increase of 6.89% as compared to 2023.
Candidates can access individual results online through a link on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website (https://resullts.knec.ac.ke).
They will be required to enter their index number and any of their names per their KCSE registration data.
