Kindiki: Why affordable housing project is important

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has explained why investing in the Affordable Housing Project is important. The DP said that those who will be lucky to acquire the houses will eventually become homeowners.

Kindiki said the Affordable Housing Project has created employment for youths across the country.

Speaking on Thursday when he inspected the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project in Nairobi, the DP said the Kenyans working on the project are now able to put food on the table for their families.

“Many people have been asking about the fate of the employees of the Affordable Housing Project after the houses are finished; for now, our business is to create any available job,” Kindiki said.

The DP further said that the Affordable Housing Project helps to strengthen the economy of the nation.

Kindiki said many businesses are expanding by selling products for the Affordable Housing Project.

“Those businesses are making more sales, and therefore this programme is generating more revenue for the business, creating wealth and expanding businesses to employ more people,” he added.

The DP said that the manufacturing sector has also witnessed immense growth through the Affordable Housing Project.

He said that phase one of the Project comprising 13,428 units, is almost complete and ready for commissioning.

The DP further added that decent housing affirms the socioeconomic rights envisaged in Article 43 of the Constitution and helps to improve Kenya's ranking in the human development index globally.
