Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has affirmed that he will have a say in determining his successor.
Speaking at Ngwelo Church, the governor said it is only proper to ensure that the county is left in capable hands.
"Even the Bible says that kings should ensure proper succession and choose who succeeds them," Lusaka remarked.
Highlighting the strides made by the county during his tenure, Lusaka emphasised the need for a competent administrator to take over from where he will have left off.
He expressed concern over some aspirants who have resorted to insulting him, despite his ineligibility to run in the next election due to constitutional term limits.
"Woe unto those who are busy attacking me instead of focusing on competing with their opponents," he said.
The governor called for calm and mature politics, emphasising that political hatred and heightened emotions are unnecessary.
Lusaka reclaimed the Governor of Bungoma seat in August 2022 after defeating incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati.
In 2013, Lusaka vied for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat alongside the then Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati, Maurice Makhanu, Jack Tumwa and Wabwoba Walinywa. Lusaka won the race and served as the first governor of Bungoma.
Lusaka served for five years but lost the seat in the 2017 election to Wagamati.
He was elected Senate Speaker, where he served for five years until he decided to try his luck in Bungoma again on a Ford Kenya ticket.
Lusaka overturned tables on Wangamati in the race by garnering a total of 244,298 votes against his competitor Wangamati of DAP-K party who bagged 137,378 votes.
Wangamati vied on a DAP-K ticket.
Lusaka worked in Muhoroni as a District Officer before he was transferred to Homa Bay.
He then served as a District Commissioner before becoming the first secretary of provincial administration in the Office of the President during Mwai Kibaki’s tenure in 2008.
The ex-Senate Speaker then served as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock.
