Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has turned his Wamunyoro residence into a new centre of power with heightened political activities linked to the 2027 elections plans.
Gachagua, who is laying the ground for a new political machine ahead of the next general elections, has turned his rural home into a political nerve centre.
The former DP has intensified meetings with various political leaders, especially those from his Mount Kenya heartland as part of his elaborate strategy to consolidate the region.
On Friday, Gachagua brought together over 20 political heavyweights in his camp during a critical consultation meeting at his residence in Wamunyoro, Mathira, Nyeri County.
In what was seen as a display of political might, Gachagua hosted the leaders for lunch at his residence as he escalated meetings to firm up his 2027 plans.
Signalling plans to expand his networks beyond Mount Kenya, Gachagua hosted a delegation of Elders from Kajiado West on January 8.
Some of the politicians he has met include aspirants eyeing various elective seats across Mount Kenya, promising a do-or-die due with Kenya Kwanza-linked politicians.
Gachagua has vowed to ensure that politicians from the region who were mobilised to kick him out of office will have a test of their own medicine at the ballot in 2027.
Over the weekend, Gachagua said the people of Mount Kenya whom he observed abhor betrayal, will punish Kenya Kwanza-allied politicians in 2027.
“The people of Mount Kenya region do not forgive betrayal and those who have gone against their will have a date with destiny in 2027,’’ Gachagua said during a church service in Embakasi.
Gachagua has already identified potential aspirants with the political wherewithal to unseat politicians allied to President William Ruto.
As part of his strategy to consolidate the Mount Kenya region and deny President Ruto a foothold ahead of 2027, Gachagua has already started identifying strong gubernatorial aspirants.
Gachagua has also paraded senatorial, parliamentary and MCA aspirants across the 10 Mount Kenya counties including the diaspora and vote-rich Nakuru County.
Some of his key allies who defied the whipping within Kenya Kwanza and voted against his impeachment last year are said to be eyeing gubernatorial seats.
Gachagua’s allies are said to have concluded consultations about their 2027 political vehicle with plans underway to unveil a new party in the coming weeks.
The party is poised to complicate UDA’s chances in Mount Kenya in 2027 with Gachagua planning to spare no chance in securing the majority of the seats.
While it is not clear whether Gachagua will run for the presidency or not, there are indications that he will team up with Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka in 2027.
Some of the regional leaders have also signalled their intentions to work with Gachagua in what would be built into a formidable political machine to take on Ruto.
Since his ouster last year, Gachagua has intensified meetings with potential aspirants at his rural home, retreating away from the posh Karen residence.
During his tenure as DP, Gachagua had turned the official residence of the Deputy President in Karen into a nerve centre for his political activities.
On Sunday, Gachagua signalled his intention to expand his political fold beyond the Mount Kenya region after he held a meeting with former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka.
In October, Munyaka declined his appointment as chairman of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre by President Ruto.
“It was a pleasure to revisit our common experiences in the last Parliament and contrast what we see in the calibre of that particular Parliament, as well as the general political leadership then, as compared to the current one,’’ Gachagua posted on X.
Some of the stalwarts in his camp eyeing gubernatorial seats include Gathoni Wamuchomba who is scheming to unseat Kimani Wamatangi.
