Policeman found dead on bench in Kikuyu bar

Detectives are investigating an incident in which a police officer was found dead in a bar in Kikuyu Town, Kiambu County.

Corporal Julius Kaimenyi who was attached to Tourist Police Unit (TPU), Nairobi Sector - Nairobi Division was Tuesday morning found unresponsive on a bench he had been sitting.

He vomited before he was put to sit on the bench.

Witnesses told police the officer had been dancing at the bar and did not take any drink then.

It was then the deceased is said to have started vomiting at some point prompting the bar manager to order that he be put to sleep on the bench.

Other revellers left the bar later in the night and left the officer asleep there.

It was until Tuesday morning that he was found unresponsive.

Police visited the scene and confirmed he had vomited on his clothes.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

The police want to establish what caused the death.

They also want to establish if he drank or ate anything at the joint. A team has interrogated witnesses and waiters at the bar as part of the probe.

The incident comes days after another officer who was on duty was found dead in his house in Vihiga.

Constable Geoffrey Kipapi who was attached to the local Magada Patrol base had been on duty on January 11 before he retired to his house in Mulele village within Muhanda sub-location.

Police said Kipapi arrived at his home late and went to bed.

His family said they found him dead on the bed with blood oozing from the mouth and nose the following day.

Police visited the scene and removed the body to Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary Mbale for preservation and postmortem.
