Trip Advisor has ranked Nairobi the fifth-best city in Africa in the Travellers’ Choice Awards.
The top destination in Africa, according to Trip Advisor, is Morocco's Marrakech followed by Mauritius in second.
Tanzania's Zanzibar was ranked third, and Cape Town Central in South Africa in fourth.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano took to social media to celebrate the achievement after the announcement.
“May we continue maintaining peace, patriotism, prosperity, and kindness among us. Kenya is our home and a dream destination for the world,” she said.
In addition to its urban core, Nairobi has a national park, a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos and home to giraffes, zebras and lions.
Next to it is a well-regarded elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
Every year, Tripadvisor awards travellers' favorite destinations, hotels, restaurants, and things to do around the world, based on reviews and ratings collected over 12 months.
Travelers’ Choice winners are determined based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on Tripadvisor over a 12-month period.
To be eligible for an award, a property, business, destination or point of interest must have been listed on Tripadvisor for at least 12 months, must receive a threshold number of reviews within the evaluation period of that award, and must maintain or exceed a minimum bubble rating on Tripadvisor.
For specific Best of the Best award sub-categories, additional eligibility criteria apply - such as the type of guest experiences or amenities featured on-site.
Travellers' Choice Awards Best of the Best winners are decided by real travellers from all over, sharing real opinions and stories.
The 2025 winners are a celebration of everything done last year—all the places discovered.
The “Red City” of Marrakesh was described as a magical
place, brimming with markets, gardens, palaces, and mosques.
