A woman has sustained serious injuries after she was attacked by thugs in Lukenya, Machakos county.

Police said the victim sustained serious injuries inflicted on her by gangsters who vandalized a transformer belonging to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company on Friday.

The incident, according to police, happened at around 4.00 am.

It wasn’t clear how the woman ended up being hacked by the unknown assailants.

Police said the vandalized transformer had been installed at the woman’s home located at Baraka village in Muthwani, Athi River subcounty.

Photos of the woman obtained by the Star show her bleeding on the head.

“Today at around 4.00 am, it was reported by the village manager, Baraka village, that one transformer had been vandalized by unknown people. They have assaulted the owner of the compound where the transformer was placed,” a police report seen by the Star read in part.

“The incident was reported to Joska police station and the officers have visited the scene,” it read.

The incident happened weeks after a woman was raped in the same Athi River subcounty on December 25.

The 23–year–old woman was reportedly gang-raped at Tufform village in Sabaki, Mlolongo division on Christmas Day.

Athi River South subcounty police commander Phylis Muthoni confirmed that the woman had reported a gang rape incident report at the Athi River police station.

The suspects are, however, still at large.

The woman said she lost consciousness after about four men raped her on the fateful day.

The incident led to the torching of the main suspect’s house by irate members of the public on December 28, 2024.
