Migori: Butchery attendant killed in confrontation with colleague over loss of meat

Police said Geoffrey Ouma, 35, was stabbed to death by a suspect known to him.

A confrontation between two butchery attendants that was triggered by the loss of meat ended tragically when one of them was fatally stabbed in Ranen Market, Migori County.

The incident happened on Monday, January 20 evening when the two attendants quarrelled over an unknown amount of meat that had gone missing, police and witnesses said.

Police said Geoffrey Ouma, 35, was stabbed to death by a suspect known to him.

He had a stab wound in the back. 

Police said the two were blaming each other for having reported to their employer about the loss of meat at the butchery and a slaughterhouse where both the deceased and the suspect had been working.

The owner of the premises was concerned about the loss of meat and launched a probe into the same when the two started blaming each other.

The suspect surrendered to Ranen police post after the killing, police said.

The killer weapon was also recovered.

He was processed pending arraignment for murder while the body of the deceased was moved to Rapcom Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Elsewhere in Mwangani village of Kinango Location, Kwale County a decomposing body of a male adult was found inside a bush by members of the public.

The body had no visible injuries and was taken to Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.

Detectives are also investigating the murder of a man who was shot with an arrow in Rachuonyo East Sub-County in Homabay County.

Locals reported that the incident happened at Kong’ondo village in Kodumo East Sub-Location where the body of Kennedy Owino 45 was found down with an arrow lodged in the right side of the chest.

It was established that on Sunday night at around 11 pm while around his homestead, in the company of others, they were attacked by unknown people armed with bows and arrows. He died on the spot.

In Siaya, a female suspect was arrested in connection to the killing of a guard and the serious injury of his colleague.

Unknown robbers attacked the watchman with a panga, killing him on the spot on Monday at Nyang’oma market, Siaya County.

There was a power outage when the robbers raided a shop and attacked the guard, Absalom Sande 29.

The body was found with multiple cuts on the head, according to the police.

Another guard aged 42 was also found unconscious, also with deep cuts on the head.

Investigations were launched and it was established that a group of people had vandalized a transformer within the market, leading to the power blackout.

In the process, they broke into an electronic shop and stole laptops and phones.

The injured guard was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition while the body of his colleague was transferred to the mortuary.

Following investigations, police arrested a woman aged 21 who was found in possession of a mobile phone belonging to the deceased person, Absalom Sande.
