State Department for Higher Education and Research PS Beatrice Inyangala has urged institutions of higher learning to embrace ‘smart education.’
Dr Inyangala outlined the transformative power of technology, particularly artificial Intelligence (AI), in revolutionising higher education.
She emphasised the need to embrace smart education to equip students with skills relevant to the demands of the 21st century.
“Integrating AI into learning systems can personalise education, support data-driven decisions, and enhance student engagement,” she said.
In a speech delivered by Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Inyangala highlighted Kenya’s adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which integrates digital literacy to foster critical thinking, creativity, and innovation among learners.
“This is a crucial step in building a sustainable and adaptable education system,” she said.

Karatina University vice chancellor Prof Linus Muthuri Gitonga highlighted the urgent need for higher education institutions to embrace technological innovation.
“The integration of advanced technological solutions on our campuses is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity,” he stated.
Gitonga emphasised the importance of enhancing campus safety and fostering smarter learning environments.
“We are committed to improving the safety and overall
educational experience for our students and staff. Through forums like these,
we seek and implement innovative solutions,” he said.
Embu University Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel Ngendi highlighted the need for the integration of advanced technologies such as AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) in higher education institutions.
He emphasised the importance of adopting innovative solutions like biometric security systems, crime prevention education, and collaboration with local authorities to enhance campus security.
Ngendi also highlighted the role of smart education in fostering dynamic learning environments, particularly through digital platforms and interactive tools.
He stressed the need for universities to embrace AI and IoT solutions to create safer, smarter campuses that are equipped for the future.
The event aimed to showcase cutting-edge technological solutions designed to enhance campus security, foster smarter education, and promote innovation in the higher education sector.
