It is good news for the 2024 KCSE candidate after the government’s placement agency opened the enrolment portal.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) opened up the placement portal on Friday.

The portal will remain open for the next 21 to allow all last year’s candidates who qualified to join Teacher, Medical and TVET training institutions.

The swift move by KUCCPS will enable students to secure the March and May admissions unlike before when they waited until August.

The portal targets students who did not score a mean Grade of C+ (plus) and above to secure direct entry to university.

The students will also apply for courses offered at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVETs).

The placement portal will run between January 24 and February 14, 2025.

KUCCPS CEO Agness Wahome said the opening of the portals follows a new method by the institution that aims to make it available in different phases for different categories.

"The placement service has for the first time adopted a phased application process starting with the Kenya Medical Training College and the TvET colleges to allow the students enrolling for the March intake to apply on time," the statement read in part.

She said this is because universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes towards the last quarter of the year while KMTC and TVETS admit in January, February, and May.

The phased application process aims to have students transition to college promptly.

KUCCPS has also announced that previous Form Four leavers who sat for KCSE between 2000 and 2024 can apply for placement in KMTC and TVETS.

Students have been advised to apply for TVETS and KMTC campuses within their localities to make operating from their homes cheaper.

“Students applying for degrees and TTC should exercise patience, as dates for their applications will follow thereafter and will be announced,’’ KUCCPS said.

For students who will re-seat their exams in July, KUCCPS says they will have an opportunity to apply in KMTC and TVETS with their improved grades for the September intake.

KUCCPS said that applications can only be done through the portal with the agency expected to roll out a national exercise to guide students and support applicants in designated colleges in all 47 counties.

962,512 candidates sat for KCSE 2024, with only 246, 391 candidates scoring C+ and above, qualifying for direct university admission. 605,774 are expected to apply for TVETs this year.
