A police officer who
was travelling in a Public Service Vehicle shot and injured a suspected thief
who tried to attack passengers on the vehicle along the Kisumu-Nakuru highway.
The police officer was among passengers who were in a matatu
from Kisumu to Nakuru when the incident happened on Saturday night.
He and six other passengers boarded the vehicle and hit the road.
On reaching Kericho,
two of the passengers alighted while another one alighted at a trading
centre.
He told his seniors they proceeded with the journey and on reaching at Kapkatunga
area, the driver stopped the vehicle and parked on the left side of the road.
He said the driver
stepped out of the vehicle and opened the boot only to come back with a machete
and a pistol, which he handed over to one who was seated behind the
driver's seat.
They ordered those
who were aboard to remove valuables they had.
Before they executed
their mission, the officer who was seated in the rear seat sensed danger
and fired three bullets from his Cz pistol sending the group scampering.
During the shootout, two suspected robbers including the driver escaped towards Kapkatunga tea plantation while one of them who had a bullet wound on his left shoulder was arrested and handed over to police in Londiani by the officer.
The motor vehicle was detained at Londiani
police station while the suspect was admitted at Londiani Sub County Hospital in
fair condition pending processing and further action.
Police said they are
looking for the driver for questioning.
Off-duty cops are
allowed to carry weapons.
Meanwhile, police are investigating
the murder of a man whose body was found along Thika Road.
The victim was later
identified as Isaac Mwangi Kagure, 35.
The body had several stab
wounds and was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and autopsy, police
said.
Police said they are investigating murder in the incident and no arrest has been made.
The motive of
the incident is yet to be known.
In Dadaab’s Banane Kokar
Trading Centre, one man was stabbed and killed in a fight over a love triangle.
This followed a quarrel
between two men, police said.
Police said an altercation ensued and the two stabbed each other with knives leading to the death of one of them.
The other sustained serious injuries and was
rushed to Dadaab Hospital for treatment.
It was alleged the two
had a longstanding grudge over a love triangle.
The body was moved to
Dadaab Hospital awaiting postmortem.
The suspect was admitted
to the same hospital for treatment.
