The newly-appointed members to the selection panel for recruitment of IEBC chairperson and commissioners are set to be sworn in today.

The ceremony, to be held at the Supreme Court buildings, in Nairobi will be presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

The nine members were appointed by President William Ruto in a Gazette notice dated January 27, 2025.

This follows a decision by a Kiambu court that declined to quash the list of the selection panel team as submitted.

Justice Dora Chepkwony said that the nine nominees reflect an overall attempt to ensure regional diversity on the IEBC selection panel.

The petitioner, Boniface Njogu had argued that the list didn't reflect regional balance because four of the nominees were from the same ethnic region.

Ruto to chair meeting on AU reforms

President William Ruto is scheduled to chair a high-level retreat on Africa Union (AU) institutional reforms.

The meeting will be held at State House, Nairobi.

At least five heads of state and government are already in Nairobi for the summit.

Ruto was designated as the champion for institutional reforms in the organisation by the AU General Assembly in February 2024.

He took over from Rwanda's President Paul Kagame.

A comprehensive report on the reforms to be undertaken will be tabled during the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU General Assembly, scheduled for February 15-16, 2025.

IBEC meeting

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is set to chair the 26th Ordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC).

It will take place at his Karen residence office in Nairobi.
