The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has said the National Police Service owes Kenyans an explanation for the recent spate of alleged abductions and extrajudicial killings.
Speaking after it emerged that one of the three men who were allegedly abducted in Mlolongo last December had been found dead, LSK president Faith Odhiambo said the police must come out clear on the matter.
“The day that the court issues orders demanding the presence of the men, then three bodies miraculously appear, and they are able to identify one. The ball is still in your court, the responsibility is with the National Police Service. We are asking you to tell us what is going on in this country,” she said.
Odhiambo issued the statement after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin appeared in court and denied knowing the whereabouts of the three men.
Amin informed the court that the matter was still under investigation.
Odhiambo said it was regretful that the Kanja and Amin told the court they did not know the whereabouts of the three men.
“Inspector General of Police and DCI director came to court and said they have not idea yet fingerprints were taken and the body identified. It either means that they are not talking to each other or they do not have control over different agencies under the National Police Service, or they are lying to Kenyans,” she said.
Odhiambo added the two cannot confidently assure Kenyans of their safety.
“It is your responsibility to investigate and bring those parties to book,” she added.
One of the three young men was positively identified at the Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly known as City Mortuary.
The man went missing on December 16, 2024, alongside two others.
For over a month, the whereabouts of the three men remained unknown.
The family said they were informed that the body had been collected from Ruai and taken to the Nairobi Funeral Home on December 18—just two days after he disappeared.
