Night fire in Langata destroys 200 houses

No injuries were reported during the incident.

At least 200 families lost their property following a Friday night fire at Soweto Highrise ward in Langata, Nairobi county.

The fire whose cause is yet to be determined, is said to have razed several residential houses and shops in the area.

No casualties were reported during the incident.

Langata MP Phelix Odiwuor who shared video clip of the blaze, stated that the inferno was later contained by firefighters from the city.

“The fire was contained, and everyone is safe. Pray for Langata as we start the process of rebuilding Soweto," he said.

This is not the first time a fire has broken out in the area.

In July last year, a fire said to have started due to an electric fault destroyed several structures rendering rendering dozens of people homeless.

Several people were injured during the incident as locals dashed to their houses to salvage belongings.

Security officers have since launched investigations to establish what may have started it.
