On the Radar: ODM to hold prayer service for Raila ahead of AUC polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party will today hold a special pester service for Raila Odinga ahead of the 
African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship elections.

In a statement, ODM said the prayers will be held at the Bomas of Kenya.

Several leaders from across the political divides are expected to attend.

Raila will face off with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti and Madagascar's Richard Randriamandrato.

The three went head-to-head in a televised debate on December 13, 2024, where each used the opportunity to outline their vision of how they would lead the transformation of Africa through the implementation of the AU Mandate and Africa’s Agenda 2063.

The election will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 15 and 16.

EACC to launch systems review of NPS operations 

EACC will today launch an examination into the systems, policies, procedures, and practices of work at the National Police Service (NPS). 
The exercise, to be launched at the National Police College Embakasi “A” Campus, targets various operational areas within the NPS.

The objective is to identify and address any systemic weaknesses.

Upon completion, EACC will compile a comprehensive report of findings and recommendations, which will be presented to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.

The event, which brings together the top leadership of both EACC and the NPS, will be officiated by EACC Chairperson David Oginde,  Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud. 
Other key speakers in the forum include Deputy Inspector General- Administration Police Gilbert Masengeli, Eliud Lagat (Kenya police service) and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin.

Labour ministers to meet in Uganda 

Ministers of Labour and senior officials from 11 countries across the East and Horn of Africa are meeting in Uganda this week for the 6th meeting of the Regional Ministerial Forum on Migration (RMFM).

The meeting will also have representatives from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), East African Community (EAC), African Union Commission (AUC), donors and UN agencies working on labour and social protection policy.
