The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Monday held a special prayer service for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of the African Union Commission election.
ODM’s Nairobi County leadership invited supporters and
well-wishers to attend the prayer service at the Bomas of Kenya.
Raila arrived accompanied by his wife Ida Odinga and a host of leaders including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi and nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana among other leaders.
The Assembly of Heads of State and Government elects and appoints the chairperson and deputy chairperson during their Session on 15 to 16 February 2025.

Raila is seeking to become the next chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) and will require the support of two-thirds of the 55 AU member states, translating to 33 votes.
Raila is contesting the seat alongside Djibouti’s Mohamoud Youssouf and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar.
If successful, he will succeed Chad’s Moussa Faki.

If no candidate achieves a two-thirds majority in the initial round, subsequent rounds are held, with the possibility of requiring only a simple majority in later stages.
