The government has committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and secure digital environment for all citizens.
Speaking during celebrations to mark Safer Internet Day 2025, Information, Communication and the Digital Economy CS William Kabogo said will work hand in hand with stakeholders to build a safe digital space.
“Together, we can make the internet a place of empowerment, opportunity, and growth—a space where every Kenyan can thrive without fear or compromise,” he said.
In a speech read by State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications PS Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, Kabogo said ensuring online safety for Internet users is paramount to the achievement of the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy.
The Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy is a key pillar of the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) aimed at leveraging technology and creativity to drive economic growth, job creation, and innovation.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated to promote safer and more responsible use of digital technologies, particularly among children and young people.
Kabogo added that in an age where the Internet has become an integral part of our lives, it is vital that for the government to ensure the space remains safe, inclusive, and empowering for everyone, especially our children and vulnerable populations.
Communications Authority Director General David Mugonyi said Kenyans bear the collective responsibility to ensure a safe digital environment where children and the youth can explore, learn, and thrive without experiencing harm.
“On this Safer Internet Day 2025, I urge all ICT stakeholders, service providers, and institutions devoted to child protection and digital economic development to make an active commitment towards enhancing vigilance and reducing, if not eliminating, the threat of online scams from the Kenya cyberspace,” he stated.
Mugonyi added players in ICT must simultaneously develop
the capacity to protect
Kenyans online and ensure a positive digital experience within the country.
“As the custodian of our national cyber security framework, this is one of the key roles of the authority,” he noted.
He further noted that Kenya is ranked by the International Telecommunications Union as a Tier One country in the Global Cyber Security Index.
This ranking measures the commitment of a country to cyber security.
