Security officers have arrested four people who are alleged to be behind the theft of veterinary drugs at President Yoweri Museveni’s farm.

The four, according to Ugandan police, were arrested following a break-in at the Kisozi farm in Goma District, Central Uganda where the drugs were stolen.

The worth of the stolen drugs was yet to be revealed.

The suspects include herdsmen and two women who are said to be dealers of veterinary drugs.

“It is true we arrested them. They were herdsmen at the President’s farm. Instead of using the drugs to treat animals, they have been selling them out,” Katonga police region spokesman Majid A. Karim told Daily Monitor.

Karim stated that the herdsmen were tracked to Kayeyi village where they were found allegedly selling the drugs.

Investigators, he added, also found more drugs believed to have been stolen from the farm at a shop in Busese village in Ssembalule District.

The police boss added that investigations into the matter are ongoing to arrest and charge all individuals involved in the illegal trade.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to theft and illegal sale of veterinary drugs,” he stated.

This is not the first time thugs have stolen property on the Museveni’s farm.

In April last year, 10 people were arrested on allegations of stealing the president’s cows.

Another criminal group stole cows on his farm in 2023.

The rising thefts forced the president to fence off his farm and also tag his animals.

These interventions have, however, not stopped these daring criminals from raiding his farm to steal farm property.

He has even previously threatened to deploy Local Defence Unit personnel in the villages to protect the farmers.

Theft of animals and crops is said to be rampant in the rural villages of Uganda.
