The country is trying to come to terms after yet another death of a legislator.

Malava MP Malulu Injendi died on Monday while undergoing treatment at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

The Clerk of the National Assembly earlier confirmed the news on Monday, with the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula issuing a statement on the same.

"It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the demise of our esteemed colleague, the Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi, who left us this evening, 17th February 2025, at 5.15pm at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He was the Member for Malava Constituency and Vice Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Education & Research," Wetang'ula said.

"As we come to terms with this great loss, let us remember Hon. Injendi for his remarkable service and the positive impact he had on our nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, constituents, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him."

His passing comes just a day after Baringo Senator William Cheptumo's death.

Senator Cheptumo passed away on February 16, 2025, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Kenyans joined fellow lawmakers, constituents, and leaders across the political divide to mourn the MP.

Who was Malulu Injendi?

Malulu was a Member of the Malava Constituency and Vice Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research.

He was serving his third term as an MP, having served continuously since 2013 (11th Parliament).

In 1981, the Legislator sat for his Class 7: CPE at Lugusi Primary School, proceeding for his F5:0-levels at St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys in 1985 and 1987, he did his F6 A-levels at St. Peter’s Boys High School Mumias.

In 1991, the legislator attained a bachelor of Arts (Economics and Sociology) from Egerton University. 

MP Malulu attained a Master of Arts (Sociology) at the University of Nairobi in 1996.

 According to Parliament.go.ke, Ijendi has been pursuing a PhD at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa

The Legislator was a member of the Cohesion (Joint Committee—Senate and KNA) committee from 2013 to 2017.

From 2017 to 2020, the MP was a member of the Regional Integration Committees while in the 11th Parliament from 2013 to 2017; he was a member of the Education Committee.

From 2020 to 2022, he was a member of the Transport and Labour committees.

In the 12th Parliament from 2017 to 2020, MP Malulu was a member and chair of the Sub-Committee University Education.

The legislator had special skills and an interest in education matters.

Leaders mourn MP Malulu.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula mourned him, saying the country and his constituency have lost a great man.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi, MP for Malava. His departure is a great loss to the nation and, most profoundly, to the people of Malava Constituency. A dedicated legislator and Vice Chair of the National Assembly’s Education and Research Committee, Injendi served with unwavering commitment," he said.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi mourned the MP condoling with the family, friends, and the constituency of Injendi.

“Mhesh has rested. Go well, Malulu. My condolences to the family and his constituents.”

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale tweeted, "Hon. Injendi Malulu, a cool man. It is well."

The National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah mourned Malulu as a friend and colleague.

"It is with heartfelt sympathy that we mourn a colleague and friend, Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi. His dedication to serving Malava and his unwavering commitment to uplifting his constituents were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working alongside him in Parliament," Ichung'wah said.
