Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has told off the Archbishop of Nyeri Anthony Muheria over his recent remarks on how the government announces their development projects.

The Archbishop on Friday said that the government should work on delivering to Kenyans rather than publicising what they intend to deliver.

Speaking to the press, Archbishop Muheria called on the government to cease being an 'advertisement agency' saying the state should focus on the needs of the country.

However, Mudavadi told him off, saying the government must speak to the citizens for them to work together and understand what they want.

"Calling the government an advertising agency is misleading Kenyans. Even in the United States, President Trump must tell his people what he intends to do. They say it when you go to Europe and other parts of the world. It is the role of the government to make sure it speaks to its people so that they can proceed with development later," the CS said.

Muheria called on the government to put resources into people and experts to develop the nation.

"Government seems to be constrained to an advertisement of government projects, advertisements of plans, this government is not an advertising agency. It is an agency that implements actions, that is what we want to see. Let us learn, a government that follows rules and systems and builds not a government that has put all its machinery to advertisement," he said.

The Archbishop called on the government to cease politics and focus its energy on Kenyans, especially those from a poor background.

The bishop's remarks were received with mixed feelings from a section of leaders.

Speaking on Friday, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also took a swipe at the Archbishop.

Kindiki said the government is mandated by the Constitution to tell Kenya about its development programmes and plans.

“It is our duty to inform the country of our planned activities. We must tell Kenyans when those activities are being implemented and to inform the country after those activities have been implemented,” he stated.
