National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health KNH visit

National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health will visit Kenyatta National Hospital.

The members of the committee are on a fact-finding mission to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Gilbert Kinyua who was found dead in his hospital bed.

Officials said the 39-year-old was brutally murdered in Ward 7B on Friday, February 7, 2025 in the morning, by an unknown assailant.

His body was found lying on the bed with a slit neck on Friday morning, the hospital and police said.

The motive of the murder is yet to be determined. Kinyua had been admitted to KNH on December 11, 2024, due to a cerebral disorder, officials said.

Police who visited the scene said the ward where Kinyua was admitted had another patient who was seeking treatment for the same condition.

Kawira case

The high court is today expected to proceed with the hearing of a case touching on the ouster of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Parties are expected to highlight their submissions in the case before Justice Bahati Mwamuye.

The last time the matter was in court, the judge confirmed and extended orders blocking her ouster. Mwamuye said Kawira satisfied the court that the case will be rendered useless if the interim orders are not confirmed.

The judge in confirming and extending the ex parte orders he had issued on 21 August last year said the orders will be in place for a period of 120 days. "...in that time, the petitioner will continue to serve as governor with a provision that the judgement in this case may be rendered before lapse of the 120 days," he said.
