Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has told off those criticising Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's move that led to the formation of the broad-based government.
Speaking in Mombasa on February 24, Nassir stated that despite Raila’s AUC loss, his supporters deserve a place in government, not just the opposition.
"We were with Raila Odinga and President William Ruto and we agreed that whatever we wanted to achieve in Addis Ababa was not successful," he said.
''While the outcome may not have been as we hoped, we remain immensely proud of Baba’s bold pursuit of a united and prosperous Africa."
The governor also stated that they were not born to be teargassed.
''Hatukuzaliwa kazi yetu sisi ati kwa sababu tuko na baba, kazi yetu ni kupigwa teargas (which loosely translates to we were not born to be teargassed just because we are associated with Baba). We deserve to be in government.''
The Mombasa governor further expressed his pride in the former AUC candidate despite the outcome of the race and welcomed him home.
''His wealth of experience and wisdom remain invaluable, and we look forward to his continued leadership here at home.''
He also expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for standing by him over the AUC journey.
On his part, President William Ruto commended Raila for the commitment he had towards the top continental job, noting that his candidature brought Kenyans together.
"I am very proud that Raila Odinga put forth a formidable, serious candidature across the African continent. He was available for all the appointments that were made for him. His candidature brought all Kenyans together from different parts of the political divide," Ruto said.
