ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna on Friday confirmed that President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had agreed on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate for the country's stability.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Sifuna stated that the agreement had been reviewed and approved by key ODM party organs.
He emphasized that the ODM Central Management Committee (CMC) had endorsed the MoU and fully supported the resolution to work together.
"I want to confirm that this document has been processed through the relevant party organs," Sifuna said.
According to Sifuna, Raila and Ruto had agreed on the MoU to address Kenya’s social, economic, and political challenges in 2025.
"As Secretary-General, I have certain constitutional duties, and that is why I am standing here today—to execute those duties in accordance with the ODM Constitution," Sifuna said in his opening remarks.
"We have taken the liberty to read out this memorandum of understanding to ensure clarity about what it entails and what it does not."
Sifuna explained that the MoU was signed in recognition of the political crises and conflicts that have hindered Kenya’s development over the years.
He stated that the two leaders were committed to the successful implementation of the agreement, which would lay the foundation for a progressive and stable nation.
Sifuna revealed that Raila and Ruto had agreed to cooperate and collaborate through broad-based consultations on several key issues.
These include full implementation of the NADCO report, strengthening devolution and addressing inclusivity concerns, particularly among marginalized and minority groups.
He said the implementation of the report will see the two leaders work together to bring together the country's major political players to achieve stability.
The MoU
marks a significant political development, signaling a new phase of cooperation
between the two leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Raila and Ruto are expected to sign the deal as an initial step to begin working together ahead of the 2027 polls.
