Former Deputy President Rigathi
Gachagua has told Kenyans to
brace for the ‘worst’ part of President William Ruto after swallowing
the opposition.
Gachagua said the political deal
with ODM leader Raila Odinga
now gives the President freehand to
do whatever he wants.
He said with the opposition and
Parliament compromised, the remaining two years will be rough for
Kenyans.
“Now he has swallowed opposition, MPs have been compromised,
Ruto will do whatever he wants,”
Gachagua said.
Speaking during a service at ACK
Diocese of Kajiado Holy Trinity Church–Kitengela, Gachagua
claimed the Ruto administration
has already sold Bomas of Kenya to
foreigners with links to top government officials.
He alleged the idea was first
mooted when he was the DP but
was shelved after he protested.
“Bomas of Kenya as we speak has
been sold, it was brought to the Cabinet and I was the only one who opposed the proposal. The other people in the Cabinet are flower girls. Ruto will do whatever he wants to
do in this country,” Gachagua said.
He also alleged there is selective
firing of senior government officials
from a certain community.
The purge, Gachagua said, is
ruthless and is being done to punish
a whole community in bid to settle
political scores.
“We call the President to stop the
purge against one community, even
if he has new friends. It is unfortunate that all these are happening but
the end is near,” he said.
The former DP, who was accompanied by several leaders, also dismissed the Ruto-Raila pact, saying
it is only meant to unite one community against the rest.
“He is trying to unite other communities against one community,”
he said.
Ruto and his 2022 challenger
Raila signed a Memorandum of Understanding to foster national unity
and address 10 pressing issues facing the country.
Gachagua tore into the deal, saying nothing will come out of the
newfound cooperation.
Nyandarua Senator John Methu
rubbished the deal as unnecessary
baggage to the country and Kenyans should not expect anything
positive from the deal.
“Ruto is trying to treat diarrhoea
by sealing the exit,” Methu said.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu
termed the newfound political cooperation between Ruto and Raila
a misplaced agenda, especially after
plotting impeachment of his own
deputy.
“Ruto has no moral authority to
talk about unity of Kenya, he has
broken his own house. You cannot
demolish your house and behave
as if you want to unite your neighbours’ houses,” Nyutu said.
Embakasi North MP James Gakuya said Ruto has turned against
the very people who campaigned for
him in 2022.
The lawmaker termed Friday’s
deal between the President and Raila unfortunate and one that is only
meant to exclude a section of Kenyans from the government.
“Ruto is a deceiver. He promised
us he would not betray us. Now he
has turned against us,” Gakuya said.
Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara said
they will not bow to state intimidation, insisting they will support Gachagua to the ballot in 2027.
“We are keenly watching you,
Kenya does not belong to you, we
will rally behind the people’s Deputy President and send Ruto home,”
she said.
Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto
claimed of an ongoing plot targeting allies of Gachagua in Parliament.
He cited the recent reshuffle in
parliamentary committees as just a
tip of the iceberg of what to come
for Gachagua’s allies.
