The two suspects are currently in police custody as they await their court appearance, with detectives continuing their investigations into the alleged fraud.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kilimani have arrested two suspects accused of defrauding a Kenyan out of Sh1.1 million in an alleged vehicle importation scam.
According to police reports, the incident allegedly occurred on May 27, 2022, when a man, posing as a salesperson at a motors shop along Ngong Road, reportedly promised to deliver two vehicles—a Probox Extra and a 14-seater Toyota Hiace 7L—for Sh2.9 million.
The victim, lured by the offer, is said to have paid a deposit of Sh1.1 million before the suspect allegedly disappeared.
Authorities say that forensic intelligence led them to the man's hideout at an apartment in Athi River, where they recovered several SIM cards believed to be connected to the scheme.
The man further led detectives to his accomplice, another man, in Makongeni, Thika where they recovered a SIM card linked to a Sh550,000 payment from the victim.
