The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has seized 800 rolls of bhang during an anti-narcotics operation in the Kimbo area.
During the raid, officers from Mugutha Police Station, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), arrested two suspects aged 21 and 30.
The suspects were caught in possession of various quantities of bhang, which according to DCI, indicated a well-organized drug trafficking operation.
The officers confiscated 13 sachets, each containing 35 grams of bhang, five sachets weighing 130 grams each, 44 sachets of 16 grams, and two digital weighing machines.
The DCI stated that these findings suggested the suspects were prepared for distribution.
"The two suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing processing before their arraignment," the DCI stated.
Meanwhile, in Moyale, police officers on patrol intercepted a motorcycle carrying two suspicious sacks.
Upon noticing the officers, the rider reportedly abandoned the motorcycle and fled.
A search of the sacks revealed 20 bales of bhang weighing approximately 100 kg.
The motorcycle and the narcotics were taken as evidence, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
In a separate case earlier this year, an intelligence-led operation in Mombasa’s Jomvu area led to the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker.
The suspect was stopped while driving a "suspicious" vehicle along the Mombasa-Nairobi Road.
According to DCI, a search of the vehicle uncovered large rolls of bhang hidden in the boot, demonstrating the extreme measures traffickers take to evade capture.
Police continue to intensify their efforts to curb drug trafficking across the country.
Elsewhere, police based at Kapletundo Police Station have arrested a suspect linked to the vandalism of Kenya Power and Lighting Company transformers in Sotik area, Bomet County and its environs.
Acting on a tip-off regarding an ongoing vandalism of a KPLC transformer, officers responded swiftly and caught the suspect red-handed.
Upon interrogation, he further revealed the locations of two additional transformers that he and an accomplice, who remains at large had previously vandalized, rendering them nonfunctional in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages.
The suspect, alongside recovered exhibits, was escorted to Kapletundo Police Station, where he is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment.
Meanwhile, the search is on to apprehend his accomplice and bring him to book.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is urging the public to refrain from vandalising vital installations, as such destructive behaviour will be met with the full force of the law.
The vandalism trend has led to many areas being left in darkness hence affected businesses.
Efforts are ongoing to address the menace.
