The Orange Democratic Party on Friday suspended the list of Dagoretti North Constituency grassroots election delegates.

The decision follows a dispute lodged by Kilimani MCA Moses Nyagaresi Ogeto.

In a communication to the public, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen noted that the issue is being handled internally through consultations pending final decision.

"Meanwhile the delegates list for the branch should stand suspended pending such resolution. We are confident that both leaders, being staunch members of our party, will approach this matter in the spirit of unity and come up with a resolution that strengthens ODM rather than undermines it. Kindly treat this matter with urgency it deserves,” said Ong'wen.

Ogeto argues that most of the grassroot delegates whose names were published by the party did not pay the required fee to participate in the elections and demanded deletion of their names from the list.

"The party must do due diligence and ensure we have the correct list. Democracy must start with us, and that is what Baba and our party constitution stand for,” he said.

He further called on his supporters to allow the party to resolve the matter amicably as directed.

"As the ODM chairperson for Dagoretti North Constituency, I urge all our delegates to be patient and calm and to continue trusting the process as we wait for this issue to be resolved amicably," Ogeto added.

ODM is set to start its grassroots elections in April.

According to a notice on Thursday’s dailies, the elections come following the successful polling unit elections conducted on November 27, 2024.

The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) said the sub-branch (Ward) elections will take place on Monday, April 7.

The exercise will be carried out at designated centres across the 47 counties.

“Branch (constituency) elections will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at designated centres across the 290 constituencies nationwide,” NECC said.
