President William Ruto’s senior economic adviser Moses Kuria now says that Community Health Promoters and boda boda riders who assist Kenyans join the Social Health Authority will be rewarded.

In a statement on X after a meeting with CHPs in Nandi county, Kuria said boda boda riders and the health promoters will receive Sh20 commission for every Kenyan they enlist for Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

He said that the CHPs and the riders will get the commission once the member introduced to SHA starts making payments.

"Every CHP or boda boda who assists members to join SHA and start making payments to get Sh20 commission. We have also launched a programme for daily deduction of small amounts from mobile money to pay for SHA," Kuria said in a statement on Wednesday.

Kuria presided over the launch of CHPs and the Boda Boda Incentive Programme for Mass Registration at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Nandi.

On Tuesday, Health CS Aden Duale said all patients registered with SHA will have access to the enhanced services effective April 1, 2025.

Duale said cancer patients will now be able to access treatment of up to Sh550,000 annually under the Universal Health Coverage.

The CS noted that the amount will be partly covered by the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and partly by the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF).

“We are thrilled to announce that additional funding has been allocated to enhance the benefits available for patients in need of cancer diagnosis and treatment services. Each patient will now have access up to Sh550,000 per year, specifically designed to support their treatment journey.

“Within this framework, Sh400,000 will be available through the SHIF programme, and an additional Sh150,000 will be accessible via ECCIF,” Duale said.

He added that this move will enable Kenyans registered under the SHA to receive the care and support they deserve.

Duale further noted that under the Critical Care Services, which includes the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU), payments have also been enhanced.
