Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is set to embark on an extensive tour of the six counties in the Coast Region.
The tour, which begins on April 7 and ends on Saturday, April 12, 2024, is part of the ongoing Jukwaa la Usalama County Tours initiative.
The week-long visit will see CS Murkomen assess the security situation across the counties while engaging local leaders, regional and county security teams, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), and peace committees.
This will be Murkomen’s first major countrywide tour since his appointment as CS Interior following a reshuffle by President William Ruto.
The tour is seen as a part of a broader strategy to strengthen peace, cohesion, and community collaboration in tackling security challenges.
Among the top priorities for the tour is evaluating the region’s disaster preparedness amidst increasing threats posed by climate change and extreme weather events.
The CS is also expected to interact directly with residents (Wananchi) to gather feedback on the effectiveness and accessibility of citizen services provided by the government.
Other key objectives of the tour include interfacing with frontline security personnel tasked with combating land and maritime threats in the Coast Region.
He will also be conducting spot checks on the ongoing rollout of Mobile ID Registration services, an initiative rolled out after President Ruto's issuance of ID cards for free.
“The Jukwaa la Usalama forums offer an opportunity for direct feedback, transparent dialogue, and action-oriented collaboration between the government and the public,” said a dispatch from Murkomen’s office.
Murkomen’s tour of the coast region comes at a time when security officers have been called into action after criminals wielding pangas struck last week.
Nine suspects were arrested in Msambweni sub-county, Kwale County, in an overnight intelligence-based crackdown on the armed criminal gang, Panga Boys.
A multi-agency team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Kenya Police nabbed the suspect on April 4, 2025.
“All the suspects are being processed for further legal action,” Coast Regional Commander Ali Nunow said in a brief on the ongoing operation.
Murkomen's office said the Coast Region tour underscores the government’s
commitment to enhancing security, improving service delivery, and ensuring that
national initiatives are responsive to the unique needs of local communities.
