Kenya U17 girls’ national team head coach Mildred Cheche is pleased with her team after they concluded their test matches with a 2-0 win over hosts Morocco at the Mohammed VI Sports Complex in Rabat.
Having played to a 1-1 draw in the opening friendly match on Thursday, April 4, at the same venue, Cheche was determined to overcome the more fancied North Africans
Mitchel Waithera opened the scores for Kenya before Police Bullets FC defender Elizabeth Ochaka added the second to ensure Kenyan carried the day.
Cheche and her technical bench used the two friendlies for exposure and also to gauge her new players in preparation for the final round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
The junior Starlets pushed their unbeaten run on African soil to 8 matches in all competitions, registering 6 Wins and 2 draws, scoring an impressive 16 goals and conceding only one.
“The games helped us gain more fitness as we played against a fast and tactical side that keeps the ball. The win motivated the girls ahead of their clash with Cameroon, as we look forward to winning the final leg of the qualifier to grab the ticket to our second world cup," said Cheche.
The first leg is set for Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2025, at Stade Olembe in Yaoundé.
The Kenyan beauties overcame Uganda 5-0 on aggregate in the second round of the qualifiers, while the Young Lionesses of Cameroon hammered Ethiopia 6-2 on their way to the final round.
Cheche’s girls are chasing history with their second appearance, having made their U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in the Dominican Republic in December 2024.
The team is expected in the country tonight and will proceed straight to camp in readiness for the Cameroon clash.
