The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has completed all necessary arrangements for the second phase of its grassroots elections, scheduled to take place on April 11 and 12, 2025, across 22 counties.
This development follows a high-level meeting chaired by Party Chairperson and Embu Governor, Cecily Mbarire, at Hustler Plaza on Tuesday morning.
The meeting convened the party's National Steering Committee, the National Elections Board (NEB), and the management team to ensure a seamless electoral process.
NEB chairman Anthony Mwaura reported that logistical preparations have been finalised, with election materials ready for dispatch.
"We have finalized all the arrangements for the elections. The personnel are ready while poll materials are assembled and ready for dispatch," stated Mwaura.
The elections are set to commence on Friday, April 11, in Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Turkana, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu counties.
The following day, Saturday, April 12, polling will be conducted in Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River counties.
To facilitate a transparent and efficient voting process, UDA has procured over 10,000 electronic devices.
These gadgets are intended to support a digital electronic framework, ensuring the elections are open, free, fair, and capable of delivering instantaneous results upon the closure of polls.
Emphasizing the significance of grassroots participation, Mbarire highlighted that these elections represent a pivotal moment in strengthening democracy within the nation.
"Grassroots elections are vital in ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard and represented. By empowering local leaders, we cultivate a leadership that is not only responsive but also accountable to the people," she remarked.
The party had opened registration for interested candidates, with the process having been closed at midnight on March 21.
Prospective aspirants were encouraged to register through the party's
online portal.
To date, approximately 113,800 candidates have registered to contest in the upcoming elections.
In light of the forthcoming elections, the party's Disciplinary Committee, led by Charles Njenga, has issued a stern warning to participants and supporters.
Any violations of the party constitution and code of conduct during the polls will attract strict disciplinary action, underscoring the party's commitment to upholding integrity and order throughout the electoral process.
This second phase of grassroots elections follows the initial phase
conducted in April 2024 in some parts of Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Busia,
Homa Bay, and Garissa counties.
The upcoming elections are part of UDA's broader strategy to solidify
its grassroots structures and promote participatory leadership across Kenya.
